Filandia was officially founded on August 20, 1878, by Colombian settlers from the Antioquia region – known as Antioquenos – who were drawn to the fertile land and mild climate of Quindio. The town’s name comes from the Latin “Filia” (daughter) and “Andia” (Andes), giving it the poetic meaning of “Daughter of the Andes.” The historic center of Filandia was incorporated into the UNESCO Coffee Cultural Landscape of Colombia in 2011, recognizing its deep-rooted coffee heritage. Geography
Filandia is located in the Quindio department, in the western region of Colombia.
